These are historically based and narrated guided tours, that make stops along the way at historic sites and iconic landmarks.
Lockport is THE destination that provides the Premier Erie Canal Experience of the entire NYS Canalway Corridor!
From May when the Canal opens through October when it closes, you can see boats locking through on a daily basis.
Locks 34 and 35 are the only set of "combination locks" on the entire Erie Canal and among the early surviving examples of modern lock design!
This is where ships learned to "sail uphill" on the Old Erie Canal!
World famous when they opened in 1825 as the only duplicated flight, we look forward to completing our goal of having our 1842 ca. Flight of Five locks working & complete.
Locks 69 & 70 now working, will soon have Lock 68 join them Spring 2019.
The Locks District Museum is housed in the original power house that was built in 1915 to energize the combined locks for the new Barge Canal.

Visit the Lockport Locks to watch our Lock Tenders crew as they push on the 1-ton wooden balance beams that open the 5-ton wooden Lock gates. Demonstrations of the Erie Canal Flight of Five Locks are offered every Saturday starting at 10:30 am
The Erie Traveler boat learned to climb uphill just to navigate between Erie Canal Locks 69 and 70.

All our guests on our Lock Tenders Tribute Walking Tour, have an opportunity to work with our Flight of Five Lock Tenders, to work the 1842 restored Lock Gates. How heavy do you guess these gates are? Come push them open with us as a finale to our tour!!! Everyone, young and the older young...can learn to be a lock tender!
100% of the proceeds from our admission sales, go directly back to LHDC and are dedicated to the initiative to preserve the Historical Heritage of our city’s Canal District and restore our entire set of the 1842 Flight of Five locks to working condition.. All of our guests become a little bit of history and help preserve it for future generations. We thank you!
